Q: What is something that you absolutely hate?

Q: What do you think causes us to hate something?

Q: Can hating something ever be a good thing?

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

There is a time for everything.

The Bible says that there’s a time to hate.

Q: What do you think it means that there’s a time to hate?

Q: Do you think there’s anything that God hates?

Proverbs 6:16-19

There are six things that God really hates.

The Bible says, “seven that are detestable to Him.” (One is mentioned twice)

1 – “Haughty Eyes” = Arrogance. Thinking very highly of yourself.

2 – “A lying tongue” & “A false witness who pours out lies” = A liar.

3 – “Hands that shed innocent blood” = Taking advantage of innocent people.

4 – “A heart that devises wicked schemes” = Someone who premeditates wickedness.

5 – “Feet that are quick to rush into evil” = People who show no restraint from sin.

6 – “A man who stirs up dissensions among brothers” = Disunifies people.

Q: Why do you think God distinguishes these sins amidst all the others?

Q: Do you think that there is any sin that God hates less than these?

Romans 12:9

We are commanded to hate what is evil, and cling to what is good.

Hate is a good thing as long as we hate what God hates.

Q: What stops us from hating evil?

Q: Is there a particular sin in your life that you have a hard time hating?

Luke 14:25-27

Q: What do you think Jesus meant by “you must hate your mother, brothers, sister, etc…”?

Q: Why do you think Jesus used the word “hate”?

The reason people don’t hate sin = Don’t love God!

It’s actually a good thing to hate as long as you hate the things that God hates!

Challenge: Hate the things that God hates! Hate for sin is produced when you learn to love God!
